Sutter County voters can review details about Measure G and gain insight into four early-stage development ideas for Yuba City through a recent video roundtable featuring local public officials. The discussion, facilitated by a local news report editor, Scott Thomas Anderson, alongside 93Q Radio head Bob “Fish” Fischetti and show host John Cassidy, aimed to foster a community conversation on these significant topics. The full roundtable is available for free viewing online.

The roundtable began with an interview featuring Steve Smith, the County Administrator for Sutter County. Smith addressed questions regarding Measure G, which is proposed as a 1% general sales tax measure on the upcoming ballot. He provided detailed explanations on how this measure relates to the existing broader sales tax splits currently in place between Sutter County, its incorporated cities, and the State of California. Smith also clarified how, if Measure G is passed by voters, the resulting revenues would be allocated and split among Sutter County, Yuba City, and Live Oak.

Later in the public discussion, the focus shifted to Yuba City’s future growth, with Marc Boomgaarden, the Mayor of Yuba City, and Robert Bendorf, the City Manager for Yuba City, joining the facilitators. Mayor Boomgaarden and City Manager Bendorf outlined four distinct potential development projects for Sutter County’s seat. All these concepts are in the initial phases of being fleshed out, indicating they are still subject to further planning and refinement.

One of the proposed developments is known as "The Sheds," envisioned as a mixed retail and residential center. This project is being considered for a location near Plumas Street. Another significant idea presented is an eclectic multi-purpose development. This project is proposed for a strategic area near Colusa Highway, the former K-Mart property, and Yuba City’s existing mall. Officials described this development as intended to create "a new front door for Yuba City."

A third concept discussed involves a mixed-use development situated along the Feather River. This riverside project is planned for an area near Sutter County’s historic courthouse and could potentially incorporate outdoor performance spaces and rooftop dining, offering views out to the water. Finally, Mayor Boomgaarden and City Manager Bendorf addressed the possibility of a large sports complex. This complex would be constructed on substantial acreage that is expected to become available for the city to purchase in the near future. During the roundtable, Boomgaarden and Bendorf fielded inquiries about how such a complex could serve as a long-term revenue generator for Yuba City, primarily through hosting tournaments and increasing visitation to the area.

Conceptual renders for all four of these proposed developments were reviewed in detail throughout the public conversation. While the local news report editor who participated in facilitating the discussion did not take a position on Measure G, the roundtable offered residents an opportunity to understand the implications of the ballot measure and the potential trajectory of Yuba City’s growth. Voters will have the opportunity to decide on Measure G, while the early conceptual developments will continue to undergo further planning and consideration by city officials.
