Two unidentified human remains were recovered this week in Yuba County, prompting separate investigations by the Yuba Sheriff’s Office. One individual was found in the county’s foothills near Dobbins, while the other was located near the edge of Plumas Lake. Forensic autopsies were conducted on both individuals on Thursday, September 17, confirming initial details about each.
Yuba Sheriff officials confirmed that the individual recovered on Frenchtown Road, between Oregon House and Dobbins, was a white adult male "who appears to be middle-aged." This body was first discovered on the afternoon of Monday, September 14, along a fairly well-traveled roadway. The following afternoon, on Tuesday, September 15, the remains of an elderly black adult female were found on Plumas Arboga Road, near Plumas Lake, also along a well-traveled route. Both discoveries occurred within 24 hours of one another.
Authorities have not yet released any information regarding the cause of death for either individual. However, Yuba Sheriff officials confirmed that detectives are actively investigating both situations. The department stated its continued dedication to establishing the identities of both individuals and investigating the circumstances surrounding their deaths, explicitly treating these two cases as distinct and separate investigations.
The news of these two discoveries, made in similar roadside settings within a day's span, has led to significant discussion and speculation across various social media platforms in the Yuba-Sutter area. Public concern was briefly heightened by online rumors suggesting a third unidentified body had also been found near Oroville within the same 24-hour period.
However, the Butte County Sheriff’s Office addressed these rumors, clarifying the situation regarding remains found in their jurisdiction. Butte deputies stated that those remains, identified as a middle-aged woman, were not located along a busy roadway. Instead, this discovery was made in a known homeless encampment situated on a Feather River island near Bedrock Park. In that particular case, Butte deputies also confirmed that no foul play is suspected. This clarification aimed to distinguish the Butte County incident from the ongoing Yuba County investigations.
