Sutter County Sheriff’s Office investigators, working in conjunction with Gridley Police, arrested two individuals last week following the seizure of more than 100 grams of methamphetamine from an apartment in Gridley. Teri Johnson, 68, and Christopher Wilson, 64, were taken into custody on September 16 after law enforcement executed a search warrant on an apartment located on the 1400 block of State Route 99.
The operation, which stemmed from an ongoing drug trafficking investigation, led to the discovery of approximately 100.94 grams, or 3.56 ounces, of methamphetamine. SCSO Public Information Officer Sierra Pedley indicated that during the search, agents located this quantity of methamphetamine. A news release from the Sheriff's Office further detailed the discovery, noting the presence of a digital scale, narcotics packaging, and various drug paraphernalia at the apartment. The presence of these items suggests intent beyond simple personal use, aligning with the drug trafficking investigation.
Following their arrests, both Johnson and Wilson were charged with possession of a controlled substance, as well as sale and possession of a controlled substance. These charges reflect the severity of the alleged activities uncovered during the investigation. In addition to these primary charges, Ms. Johnson faced an arrest for possession of drug paraphernalia, an offense often associated with the use or distribution of illegal substances. Mr. Wilson, meanwhile, was arrested for destruction or concealment of drug paraphernalia, an action that can indicate an attempt to hide evidence from investigators.
Despite the multiple charges levied against them, both Johnson and Wilson were cited and subsequently released, as confirmed by Public Information Officer Pedley. The decision to cite and release, while part of standard procedure in some cases, concludes the immediate physical custody portion of the arrest for these individuals.
The collaboration between the Sutter County Sheriff’s Office and the Gridley Police Department was a key element in the execution of this search warrant and the subsequent arrests. Gridley Police Lt. Jason Garringer underscored the importance of such inter-agency cooperation. Lt. Garringer remarked that it is a "privilege to partner and cooperate with other counties," including Sutter, Yuba, and Butte, emphasizing the unified front of law enforcement. He characterized law enforcement efforts as a collective "team" endeavor, essential for addressing regional criminal activity.
This investigation remains ongoing, indicating that authorities may continue to pursue further leads or actions related to the drug trafficking network from which these arrests stemmed. The initial arrests and seizures on State Route 99 represent a step in the continued effort by law enforcement to address drug-related offenses in the region.
