Yuba City audiences can experience a thrilling new production when Stage 754, Yuba Sutter Arts & Culture’s resident theater company, presents “Wait Until Dark” at the Sutter Theater Center for the Arts. The suspense thriller opens on October 16 at 754 Plumas Street, with performances scheduled to run through November 1. Tickets for the production are available for $20.
The play centers on a blind woman caught in a dangerous web of deception. As criminals threaten her safety, she must rely on her intelligence, resourcefulness, and courage to uncover their schemes and ultimately turn the tables on her adversaries. The narrative quickly transforms an ordinary setting into an extraordinary struggle for survival, building tension around the unsettling question of who can be trusted when recognizing a lie is critical.
Carefully calculated manipulation, shifting power dynamics, and mounting uncertainty are designed to keep theatergoers guessing as the story progresses toward its heart-pounding conclusion. At the core of the suspense is a woman whose determination actively challenges the assumptions of those who believe they can control her.
Stage 754 aims to infuse this theatrical classic with fresh energy, local talent, and intense performances. The nature of live performance contributes another dimension to the suspense, as every pause, sound, and movement unfolds in the same room as the audience, intensifying the experience. Organizers noted that the intimate setting of the Sutter Theater provides “an especially compelling environment” for a story where small details carry significant consequences.
The production also offers a direct opportunity to support a growing local theater company, alongside the performers and production team who are working to expand live theater offerings in the Yuba-Sutter area.
David Read, executive director of Yuba Sutter Arts Council, described “Wait Until Dark” as promising “a memorable theatrical experience.” He added that with performances scheduled throughout the latter half of October, including Halloween night, the production stands as a fitting addition to the season of suspense.
The cast features Cassie Fifield in the role of Susan Hunt, with Ryan Nelson as Mike Talman and Sam Machado portraying Sam Hunt. Ethan Fifield is played by Sargent Carlino, Mccai Phelps takes on the character of Roat, and Katherine Nelson appears as Gloria.
Tanda Phelps, who co-directed the production with Cassie Fifield, shared their excitement for bringing the thriller to the stage. Phelps commented that both directors share a love for scary movies, making the creation of tension and suspense “a particularly fun challenge.” She extended gratitude to the cast and crew for their creativity, dedication, and enthusiasm, as well as to the audience for sharing the experience.
Evening performances are scheduled for 7 p.m. on October 16, 17, 23, 24, 30, and 31. Matinee performances will begin at 2 p.m. on Sunday, October 18, October 25, and November 1. All shows will take place at the Sutter Theater Center for the Arts, located at 754 Plumas Street in Yuba City.
Tickets can be purchased online at yubasutterarts.org. For additional information, interested patrons may call (530) 742-ARTS (2787). Organizers encourage the community to attend, support local theater, and “discover how quickly the balance of power can shift when the lights go down.” The run concludes on November 1, offering multiple opportunities for residents to witness the unfolding drama.
