Quy Bui, a dedicated staff member at Yuba College, has been recognized as the Yuba College Classified Employee of the Year, an honor reflecting her more than two decades of service supporting students. Currently working in the College Success Center, Bui assists students in navigating academic challenges, particularly in mathematics, and helps them build essential confidence.

Since joining Yuba College in 2004 as an Instructional Associate in Mathematics, Bui has focused on ensuring students feel comfortable seeking assistance and capable of making progress in their studies. Her daily work involves guiding students through questions, connecting them with appropriate tutors, and actively supporting their learning journey. This consistent support has created a lasting positive impact on numerous students across the campus, earning her the recent prestigious recognition.

Bui expressed both surprise and deep gratitude for the award, stating it signifies that her efforts are appreciated after being employed by Yuba College for over 20 years. She explained that the honor holds significant meaning for her, as she feels she has genuinely "made a difference" in the lives of students. She finds immense reward in witnessing students work diligently, improve their understanding, and ultimately triumph over subjects they once found daunting. This progress, she notes, reinforces her commitment to her work.

Each day presents unique challenges, as Bui works with a diverse student body, each with their own background and specific needs. To address these varied requirements, she employs a patient, organized, and flexible approach, carefully listening to each student to provide the most effective support. Her primary motivation stems from understanding the profound value of education and a strong desire to help students succeed in their college endeavors, especially given the various life challenges many students confront.

Bui’s dedication is rooted in her own educational journey. She arrived in the United States from Vietnam in 1993 without knowing English and enrolled at Yuba College that same year. With the crucial support of fellow students, staff, and faculty, she was able to pursue her education and achieve her personal academic goals. This formative experience continues to inform her work today, as she sees it as a privilege to contribute back to an institution that was instrumental in her success. She often describes Yuba College as "my second family in this country," underscoring her deep connection to the institution and its community. For Bui, the most rewarding aspect of her job is seeing students achieve their dreams, much like she once did.
