A reception celebrating new works by local artists will take place on Sept. 18 at Yuba City’s historic Sutter Theater on Plumas Street. The event, an extension of the ongoing Art Box Marketplace, is scheduled from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., offering free admission, along with complimentary drinks and appetizers. Organized by Yuba Sutter Arts, the gathering invites the community to explore a diverse collection of original creations and meet the artists behind them.
Attendees will discover a range of art forms, including paintings, photography, drawings, ceramics, stained glass, textile art, jewelry, cards, journals, stickers, and other “imaginative treasures,” all offered at affordable prices. The Art Box Marketplace continually showcases works by various local talents. Among the artists featured are Beverly Cameron-Fildes, known for acrylics, watercolors, and photography; Trey Anderson, with colored pencil and photography; Kathy Locke, specializing in jewelry; and Kathy Childers, who creates decoupage, quilling, and distinctive paper crafts. Katie Strauss contributes ceramics and stained-glass art, and Cameron Kersting exhibits photography. New to the Art Box family of artists this quarter is Mayra Ramos Chavez, whose paintings and decorative art glass pieces are highlighted by Yuba Sutter Arts as exceptional.
Director David Read of Yuba Sutter Arts noted in a report that the reception offers an experience complete with interesting people, creative surprises, refreshments, and ample opportunities to support local talent. He also stated that participating artists will discuss their inspirations and creative journeys. Read emphasized the particular value of a marketplace featuring affordable work by local artists in a rural community such as Yuba-Sutter. He pointed out that it provides artists with visibility, income, and encouragement, while simultaneously offering residents convenient access to original art. Furthermore, Read observed that the marketplace attracts visitors to downtown Yuba City, thereby supporting nearby shops and restaurants and contributing to the vitality of the Plumas Street corridor.
The Art Box Marketplace functions as an “ever-changing gallery and shopping destination filled with original creations by talented local artists,” as described by Yuba Sutter Arts. Beyond the reception, the marketplace is open weekly from Wednesday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., and also operates during special events at the Sutter Theater. Purchasing original art from the marketplace not only supports the individual participating artists but also contributes to the programs offered by Yuba Sutter Arts & Culture.
